The Critics Circle: Ken Wilber Responds to Critics
h
In the first of an ongoing series—in which various theorists are invited to respond to their critics—Ken Wilber answers some of the recent criticisms of his work. In this particular discussion, Ken responds to a critique offered by Mark Edwards.

This dialogue concerning critical perspectives on Ken’s work was the result of a new forum for discourse among active members of Integral Institute and Integral University—a recently created weekly conference call among the various hosts of IU dubbed “Theory Mondays.” Although technically these discussions are only for the teachers at Integral University, Integral Naked pulled a few strings to make these available to the IN community. Listen in and see what you think….

This particular discussion, brief and to the point, is of interest because it addresses some of the central issues of states of consciousness, stages of consciousness, bodies and subtle energies, and the nature of the pre/post fallacy. It is also a poignant commentary on the difficulty of engaging in an accurate criticism of anybody’s work, and what constitutes fair criticism in the first place.

This dialogue is only a taste of what Integral University will offer in its Critics Circle domain: a place where intelligent criticisms can be met with intelligent responses. Integral University is launching its in-house alpha version this month (January), and we hope to go live with a public beta version by early spring. If you enjoy these types of critical discussions, please stay tuned not only for more Critics Circle offerings at IN, but for the launch of IU itself in the near future….

most memorable moment: “I’ve never found a written critic who got it all right. Again, not because they’re mean, but because we haven’t had this conversation.”
